Atherton Classic Revival
The remarkable story of this remodel begins in San Francisco where the home was originally built in 1904. Then in 1925 the house was lifted from its location and sent on a barge down the bay to Atherton, where it was placed among towering heritage oak trees and ornamental azaleas and camellias. The ageing structure was stripped down to its framing and had its foundation replaced before being transformed into the beautiful home that now stands. Two wings were added on either side to expand the home, creating an open space for an expansive kitchen and family room on one side of the house, and a master suite with his and hers bathrooms on the other. Ornate moldings vary by room, exemplifying the custom craftsmanship throughout this American neoclassical home. The white wood-paneled walls and exquisitely detailed archways lead guests from room to room to take on sights such as hand-stitched wall coverings and gorgeous chandeliers. This home also features an artist studio in the backyard. Shaped like a barn and with numerous large windows, this studio provides a space to create while overlooking the pool and the well-manicured landscape.
Saratoga Hilltop Contemporary
Clean and contemporary takes on new meaning with this 12,000 sq. ft. single family home in the Saratoga Hills. With stunning 360° panoramas of Silicon Valley, this home offers fantastic outdoor living spaces complete with a custom exterior kitchen, corten steel fire pits, and large rooftop entertaining areas. The property includes a guest house, an 85’ infinity pool, and large gardens.
Designed with the environment in mind, this home makes the most of its location and features a partial living green roof. Large cisterns are buried underground and collect rainwater to help reduce environmental impact, and the rooftop solar panels help ensure energy efficiency. The exterior of the home was specially designed to help reduce heating and cooling costs. The luxurious interior is a combination of European and Asian influences and was designed to blend together with the natural beauty of the surrounding mountain wilderness.
Los Gatos Contemporary Craftsman
This East Coast shingle style craftsman is expertly nestled on a plot of land that presents spatial challenges, yet nothing about the home seems confined. The cedar shingles coupled with blue stone veneer are contrasted beautifully by the white trellises and window frames which foreshadow the pristine interior. Guests are welcomed to the home by the sight of water flowing from the mouth of a bronze lion into an ornate fountain handcrafted from a single stone.
Large windows and white paneled walls throughout the house bring in natural light and create an open atmosphere, while radiant floors keep toes warm and cozy on brisk mornings. As natural light comes in, a solarium at the kitchen nook provides views out to the perfectly manicured backyard landscaping and lavish pool, which features a row of waterfalls cascading from a stone wall. An outdoor patio with a fireplace offers an intimate gathering area to entertain guests or enjoy a meal. Perched atop the roof is a rustic weather vane paying tribute to the barn that formerly stood on the grounds and that was recycled into the board formed walls in the basement.
